Ed et Lorraine Warren sortent de leur retraite en 1986 pour enquêter sur l'effroyable affaire Smurl. Confrontés à une entité démoniaque d'une noirceur inédite, ils sont rejoints par leur fille Judy, désormais adulte et dotée de dons médiumniques, et son compagnon Tony. Une ultime enquête où la foi, la famille et le surnaturel s'entrelacent dans une lutte désespérée contre le mal.
