Although I don’t agree with Ellis’ views on women, I do agree that he wrote a really great satire. It’s very device and aesthetic heavy, with a heavy character focus rather than plot focus in my opinion. He displays not only Batemans descent into madness as a result of the monotony of everyday life (and drugs) and the insincerity in society but also every other characters desensitisation and detachment due to this. He creates a very interesting character narrative. However, most people focus solely on Bateman ignoring those who surround him, so part of this is lost.
