 Notes
Really enjoyed Scorseseâs style, especially the piece to camera moments where as an audience member I could connect with Jordan (Leo DiCaprio) by breaking that third wall so instead of just interpreting his actions, the communication were honest, raw and direct.
I throughly enjoyed the acting and at times loved the scripting âwho, who?â âwho? are you an owl?â Fantastic! However some characters didnât feel as authentic as others; Donnieâs (Jonah Hill) storyline seemed a bit too odd, Naomiâs (Margot Robbie) accent wasnât the best.
Despite this, I did find the protagonistâs story both inspiring and disturbing. Found the beginning and middle acts very engaging, but was disappointed in the final scenes. I did leave the film thinking âis that itâ?
We donât find out how Jordan ends up eventually but it suggests that heâs going to try it all over again.
Overall I enjoyed the film and think that itâs the juxtaposition of inspiring and disturbing that draws the audience in. I think that itâs difficult to do that with a protagonist that has absolutely no character development, heâs a character with a clear aim - to get rich and be free - and he doesnât whatever he can do achieve this.
